I am a multi-sport, extremely competitive athlete. Though Basketball is my passion and number one sport, I have also played travel softball for 4 years, have run track and cross county and play volleyball. There are many benefits to playing multiple sports. I have learned to play various roles across the different teams. Being the point guard and setting the tone for my basketball team is a position of leadership. However, it has also been valuable for me to learn to play more supportive roles on other teams. Each person and the role they play on the team is vital for the team to be successful. Additionally, the cross training has been a benefit to me as I pursue my ultimate goal, to play college basketball. I am committed and driven to achieve this goal. I have played basketball as long as I can remember. For 3 years I played a grade up on a boys travel basketball team, taking my share of charges. These years of playing with the boys have been a contributing factor to my ability to work hard, be aggressive, and play with speed and strength. I am 5’3” and growing, but I play stronger and bigger than my size, as I am determined to outwork anyone else on the court. Thanks to the training on the boy’s team and the AAU girl’s team I have played on, I have the drive to be a presence on the court I have played a grade up for AAU basketball since the 3rd grade (placing me on the 4th grade team). My team won the title of Michigan State Champions in the 4th and 6th grades. We placed 12th nationally as a 5th grade team. My team always has and continues to travel outside of Michigan to "find competition, as we consistently compete at a higher level. My skills include my ability to see the court. I am skilled at passing the ball quickly up the court. My speed is an asset to transition plays and defense. My outside shot is an advantage for the team. However, not only do I look to score, but I also pride myself in getting stats in rebounding, steals, and assists. I value my team. I know their strengths and how to play to their strengths. I am a student athlete maintaining a 4.0 GPA. My work ethic is as vigorous with my academics as it is with my athletics. My dedication to school is driven by my goal to be an educator. I have been involved in many programs in school, including National Junior Honor Society, Most Teens Don’t, and Peer to Peer. It is important to me to be a positive leader in my school and community and that translates to the basketball court. |
