Personal Statement

My college goals are very simple. Graduate in a field that I enjoy yet also pushes me to the limit. I want to graduate in a way that will make my grandchildren look up to me with wonder in the future. I believe I make a good candidate for any team because of my morals. By this I am saying that I am a Student-Athlete, I have a student life before my athletic one. I also believe that truth and fairness outweighs lies and cheating. There are two types of people in the world. The people who climb the ladder the right way.  And the people who try to find an easier way to the top. My character is one of value. I treat others the way I would like to be treated whether I know that person or not. A leader in my life once told me, "To show empathy to someone, you need to first remove yourself from YOU, and place yourself in THEM."

I first became interested in wrestling in the 5th grade when I hear the one-legged NCAA National Champion, Anthony Robles from Arizona State University speak at "Character Combine" in Sacramento, CA. I went to that convention as a football player and left with a huge interest in wrestling. I did not start wrestling until the 7th grade when I began to do it as a way to stay conditioned for football. I was looking for a second sport, and wrestling already had my interest. I felt that it would be a lot of fun. And that is exactly what it was. In my first tournament I got 2nd place. Just having my hand raised for the first time changed my whole life. Football began to be conditioning for wrestling. And by the end of that season I had fallen in love with the best sport in the world.

My athletic ability is one that I would call greatness. Greatness is my best effort, and I put out my best effort in every aspect of my life. I train to improve myself and improve the capabilities I have been blessed with. I know that I can always improve my abilities, however. I am constantly learning how to use a new move, get faster take downs, and achieve a stronger upper hand in the neutral position. My academics are what I am most proud of. I work hard in the classroom every day and view procrastination as an excuse to get out of something. I work so hard that I am given the opportunity to take AP and Advanced classes in my Freshman year of high school. I have maintained above a 3.0 GPA which has given me an honor roll spot every year of my schooling.

As a teammate, I have often been asked why I am always looking out for the others on the team. Most see this sport as an individual sport. However, I constantly find myself, both purposely and inadvertently, doing what it best for the team. I transferred from Capital Christian High (Sacramento, CA) to Bradshaw Christian High (Sacramento, CA) and am happy to find a bigger wrestling team. I have found myself working harder, not for my section championship but for the team section championship.Thank you for viewing my profile. I look forward to speaking with you soon.
