Hi! My name is Carolina Camacho and I am from San Juan, Puerto Rico. I’m currently in 9th grade and part of the class 2021 in Saint John’s School.
Outside the classroom, my absolute passion is volleyball. I am a setter in my school’s team and at my club, Guaynabo Volleyball Academy (GVA). All of my coaches have taught me to love and respect this sport, and I try very hard by training and working out supplement my volleyball skills. I am currently a member of my club’s 15 and under (U15) team and so far have traveled four (4) times to different places of the United States to play volleyball. Last year, I was selected as a “reinforcement” player for another club, Borinquen Coqui, in the 14 and under (U14) category at AAU. I have had the chance to play in the Puerto Rico Volleyball Championship in the 14 and under (U14) where I have twice been earned the most valuable player (MVP) award. This award is not given based just on the performance on the courts, but measured also by the hard work at practices and giving your best at every game, no matter where it is at and who is watching.
In school, I also participate in other extracurricular activities. For example, in my school I am a member of the club The Woman in Me. This club aims to promote the interests and advocate for the rights of women, as well as try to help others understand a woman’s perspective through education and service opportunities. I am also involved in my school’s community service program, where I have helped in Down Syndrome centers, beach clean-ups and most recently helping my fellow Puerto Ricans in need after Hurricane Maria. I am so happy to be able to help and slowly make a difference in people’s lives.
As a person; I am very simple. I like to spend time with my family because my parents are my role model. My parents are the ones who every day teach my sister and I to give the best in everything we do. Serve others, recognize and assimilate others and above all never abandon the values of your home. It is the values that will take you along the paths that educated you.
For college, I am interested in the fields of civil engineering or gynecology obstetrics. My goals are to attend college in the U.S. and play Volleyball. Thank you so much for taking your time to read this!
