Hello, my name is Hailey Dougherty and I am currently attending Nazareth High School in Nazareth Pennsylvania. I have achieved being on honor roll all of high school. I play volleyball at the high school as a DS/Libero and I also play volleyball year-round on a club team and outdoor grass and beach doubles. I started playing volleyball in fifth grade and fell in love with the game. I tried out for club teams in sixth grade and have been playing club ball every since. For my first four years I have played on Court Authority Volleyball Academy (CAVA) as middle hitter, outside hitter, setter and libero. Last year I played for Synergy Volleyball Club on the 16's Rox Lime team. This year I am currently playing on AVA 18's National Team. Instead of playing on their 17's team because I felt the 18's team would help me grow as an athlete and give me more college exposure. Three years ago, I participated in the Pottstown Rumble outdoor grass tournament. My partner and I went on to win the 14 and under juniors age division. Throughout the following doubles season I won many more first and second place medals. Two years ago, I played in the Allentown Sportsfest tournament receiving second in doubles and first in quads. This summer I played up in 18U beach doubles for the first time and we advanced far into playoffs. Volleyball is a huge part of my life and has taught me so many leadership skills and communication skills. I have been told I am a team player and have been given the role as captain on many of my past teams. I am a very coachable athlete and I am committed to the game. I train off-season and throughout the summer with the strength and conditioning coach at Lafayette College. I am constantly weight-lifting and training during the on and off season because I am determined to succeed through all my hardships and difficulties. Volleyball is a physically demanding game and that is why I train so hard for it, but volleyball is more of a mental sport as well. You can train to be physical and have the mental endurance to fight through a game but one thing you cannot be taught is to have heart in the game. Having heart to me means that you hate losing more than you like winning, and I think that describes me.
