Hi! My name is Olivia Everett and I am a 14 year old freshman at Central Crossing High School. I should start with I love to play volleyball. My overall goal is to play in college and represent my school. I did try other sports (basketball, softball, soccer, gymnastics and tennis) but I just kept going back to volleyball so now I play all year round. This past summer was my first time playing beach—I loved it—and I really think it improved my indoor game, it helped me make Varsity!
I have played volleyball since 4th grade in a local parks and rec team. Other parents always commented on my playing and eventually some coaches suggested I play in club. So, I started on a regional team in 6th grade and they pulled me up to a national team in 7th. I’ve been playing at the national level ever since.
Every year I feel myself getting better and learning more about the game itself. I love being a part of a team and have played any position needed to help my team win. I prefer outside. I love to pass, hit, block and serve. I’ve even tried setting, which I have good hands—I’m told, but I kinda know it too. However, I give credit to the setters because it is NOT as easy as we hitters think. Especially when we don’t give them great passes. But, mostly I play Middle Hitter and Outside Hitter. As a middle, I love to hit quick sets, shoot sets and slides, but I really like the outside best and I love hitting from the back row. Back row vs. back row is like my favorite drill ever!
Size wise, I am a little under 5’11” barefoot which makes me 6’ with my shoes on. My doctors said my growth plate is still open but I haven’t grown in a while! I weigh anywhere between 135-142lbs. depending on the day. My mom thinks that by the time I’m 16 my muscles will catch up to my bones and I won’t look so much like a giraffe. Other than that my parents are very supportive of me and my goals.
Academically, I made national junior honor society in 7th grade and I make honor roll every term. I like school and like to learn. I also love music. I play violin in the orchestra, since 6th grade, and acoustic guitar since 7th grade. I did play piano a little, but prefer strings. I can see myself staying up with music in college too. As for majors, I don’t know yet, but probably business, political science or science.
I was invited to the HP A3 camp in 2017 but I went to the skills camp because of timing (loved it). They commented on what a great team player and how coachable I am. Anything to help me get better is what I’ll try. One thing coaches should know about me is I am pretty shy at first. But, that goes away and then I like to have fun, and I am a steady member of the team. Thanks for reading my statement! Please contact me if you think I would be a good fit.
