Volleyball was not something that always came easy to me. When I first started playing in 6th grade, I was placed on the C team. For most people this may discourage them, but for me this was the motivation that I needed. I knew I had the love of the game and I just needed to learn the basics. That year I worked harder than I had ever before to develop my skills. I knew that I wanted to stand out from the other players. By 7th grade I was playing on the A Team. When my coach asked me my motivation that year, I told her that I did not want to be on the C team again.
The hard work that I put into my volleyball also carried over to my school work. I am one of the youngest in my grade so I know I always have to work harder than the rest of my classmates. When I graduated 8th grade I was 1 of 36 students who got all A’s in all of middle school out of 291 students. I was also 1 of 30 who received the Presidential Award, for high scores for my state testing in Math and ELA while maintaining an A average.
It is very important for me as I look to the future to find a college who will have my field of study as well as allow me to continue to play volleyball.
