My name is Kyla Whannell and I am a Senior at Kenai Central High School in Kenai, Alaska. I have always wanted to run track at the collegiate level, as well as, finding a college that will meet my academic and social needs.
I am currently the Student Body President and involved in various sports and activities in my church and in my community. Most recently, I am organizing a local fundraiser to assist the homeless teens in our Kenai Peninsula area through the school district. I love to be involved with my community and try to make a difference. I know sports and school will require a lot of time and commitment, but with my extra time I have, I want to be able to get involved in my new community at college.
Academically, I have always strived to do my very best. I have been in the KCHS National Honor Society my Junior and Senior years. I have a 3.6/4.0 GPA and have maintained this GPA throughout the years in Varsity volleyball, club volleyball, Varsity Track, church activities and church youth group, and community services. I am looking forward to obtaining a degree in Business and Communications and one day hope to own my own business.
I believe I am a good candidate for a collegiate Track team, because of my dedication, leadership and my passion to run. I enjoy track, because not only is it an individual sport, but it is also a team sport. I enjoy my individual events, but my favorite experiences are working with others on relay teams. My teammates are also very important to me. I've been with the same team since the 7th grade and our bond has only grown stronger. I am so proud of each and every one of them when they compete and they can always hear me yelling and cheering for them during their event/s. I am a dedicated athlete and strive to do my best whether it is a 40 minute run in the snow at the beginning of our chilly Alaskan Track season or a sprint workout that should make you cry at the end of the Track season. My competitiveness, involvement, and enjoyment in sports has helped me become the confident person I am today. Thank you. Kyla Whannell
