Playing tennis in rural Montana requires a certain amount of tenacity and dedication. Not only does the weather vary significantly day to day, from snow to blistering sun, the availability of courts in the winter is limited to two indoor courts at a private health club. I need to be organized and prepared to play tennis any chance I get, even if that means shoveling off snow from the outdoor courts.
As the lone Freshman on my high school's varsity team, I started at third doubles and quickly progressed to being ranked third on the girl's varsity team. I learned during the season how to set goals to work for what I wanted to achieve. My goals included improving the accuracy and speed of my serve as well as developing a better court sense. My goal for my Sophomore season is to gain the first seed on the girl's varsity team. To help achieve this goal, I played in local and USTA tournaments against skilled adults and highly competitive juniors.
My academic course work is rigorous and inclusive of many academic areas. I have taken advanced math courses since my middle school years. Through early identification by Hamilton Schools, I qualify to participate in the top tier of the Gifted and Talented Program. This program has provided me with opportunities to participate in advanced problem-solving situations and self-guided learning projects. I enjoy academic challenges.
