Soccer has taught me that while hard work leads to success, love of that work will take you above and beyond. In the competitive world of women’s soccer, players are constantly confronted with challenges, whether from a talented opponent, a difficult tryout, or balancing life with the hours of practice and homework. This sport is about sacrifice and thriving on hardships, requiring willpower and a resolute appreciation for the gifts playing soccer gives. I have learned to love the game as a platform for perseverance, my teammates for their support, and my rivals for teaching and pushing me.
Without this, I would not have been able to strive through a back-to-back summer of Region IV ODP Camp in Colorado, to ID camps, to double practices leading up to San Diego Surf Cup. Whenever I thought about stopping or taking a break in the heat or the altitude, I remembered how lucky I was to have these opportunities and to excel at a sport like soccer.
This readiness to self-motivate and work hard has helped me in the academic world as well. I have exceedingly high standards for myself, which is evident in the quality of my schoolwork and a straight A report card. I hope to continue challenging myself with tough courses throughout high school and college.
