Personal Statement

I live with my family in Alameda, California and am lucky to have an aircraft mechanic as a father and an elementary school principal as a mother. My parents have inspired me with their work to excel in my school academics. I am passionate about mathematics and science, and I hope to become a mechanical, electrical, civil, or biomedical engineer. Thus, one of my aspirations is to attend a top-notch engineering school.

Another goal of mine is to play soccer for my college. I have played soccer since I was six, and I currently play for an NPL team. When people watch me play, they tell me I look like I’m having fun. I am. I love a challenge, and in soccer, every moment presents an opportunity to move the ball up the field, maintain possession, get past an opponent, pass or take a shot. Every moment is a new challenge, and with each decision I make, I strive to do my best. I work hard to use good body mechanics, maneuver the ball accurately, and pass and shoot with precision. I love the energy I get from working as a unit with my teammates, and because I value good communication, I am leader on my team. Since I ask questions and learn from suggestions, I’ve been told I’m a coachable player. Because of my hard work, technical skills, and knowledge of the game, Ian Bishop, a former professional West Ham United player, sent me to London to play with the West Ham United International Academy.

What makes me different from others is my enthusiasm to take on new challenges and to persevere in my endeavors. In middle school I was on school leadership and participated in student council. I was president of the Wood-shop, Science and Engineering, GSA, and Juggling Clubs. By showing these leadership skills and by having good grades, I was the recipient of the Kiwanis Club Hope of America Award. In seventh grade I wrote an essay, interviewed, and won an AAUW (American Association of University Women) scholarship for a weeklong STEM camp at Sonoma State. I have toured NASA’s Jet Propulsion Lab, met other young scientists and engineers, and was invited to SpaceX to learn more about aerospace and mechanical engineering. I currently attend an early-college high school program. I tutor fourth graders in math, and I’m on the high school robotics team as the Electrical Lead. I’ve also trained in Taekwondo for over ten years and received my black belt last month. I believe that my many interests in life, and my perseverance to learn and achieve, will not only provide me with rich life experiences, but also enable me to be my best and contribute positively in our society.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
