Shayna Grais '20 Recruiting Profile

I started playing hockey at the age of 8, as a winger.  From the moment I stepped on the ice, I knew I loved it!  After a few years, I switched to goalie and I never looked back.  I continue to grow as a goalie using every opportunity to improve at a very challenging position.   All these experiences listed below, and the elite coaching, has continued to expand my skills while allowing me to compete at a high level.

Over the past few years, I've had some incredible experiences.

In April 2016, our U14 team won State and then played for a National Championship in Vermont (finishing 2nd in the Nation).

In June (2015 and 2016), I was invited to the USA Hockey Central District Development Camp.

In July 2016, I was selected to attend the USA Hockey National Development Camp. (I was the only goalie from Illinois)

Last summer, I played in the Bauer Select Camps working directly with goalies Jessie Vetter and Alex Rigsby who are two of my role models.

When I wasn't traveling this summer, I volunteered as a Counselor-in-Training at a local hockey camp. I was proud to teach what I have learned to starting goalies ages 6 to 12. Docendo Discimus--By teaching we learn.

This season, I am excited to play for Team Illinois.
