I treat both academics and athletics in a similar manner. I work very hard at both and strive to succeed to my fullest potential. I believe that this hard working, driven personality came from a failure that happened in my younger years. I had tried out for an AAU basketball team in fifth grade, and I did not make it. After crying for a half an hour; my dad said, "I could either let this moment define me, or I could go out and define the moment!" Five minutes later, I was in my basement dribbling, and I haven't stopped. I will never let a moment like this defeat me in academics or athletics. I will always give it my all and never give up on my team or myself. I always strive and work at being better. I believe that this is what sets me apart from other athletes. Sometimes the defeats in your life make you stronger and more determined. No one will tell me I cannot achieve my dreams! I will be a success in school, and I will play basketball to my fullest potential in college!
In addition to basketball, I have also played softball. Surprisingly, I played softball longer than basketball. My team actually won the Columbus World Series a few years ago. I feel that playing multiple sports has developed me athletically in a way one sport could not. However, after playing both sports, I am certain that basketball is my true love. I feel that being a multiple sport athlete and a good student makes me an ideal candidate for colleges. It shows versatility, dedication to the game and studies, and drive to succeed!
