My name is Kate Leturgez and I am a basketball player from Point Pleasant, NJ. I am a self motivated student-athlete who is a smart player with very good court vision. My most important accomplishments to date are playing varsity basketball as a freshman, scoring 250 points as a freshman, being named to the NJ Fab Freshman list and being a first team member of the All Conference Freshman team. I was also named to the overall All Conference second team. Additionally I am also a varsity soccer player and have even played ODP (Olympic Development Program) soccer as a middle schooler.
Knowing that I'm capable of playing basketball in college makes me more passionate for this sport. I want to be involved in every play, whether it is playing man-to-man defense, grabbing offensive or defensive rebounds, scoring points or racking up assists. Whatever I can do to make my team successful is what drives me to play. I am not a prima donna, I don't believe that anyone owes me anything and no aspect of the game is beneath my full effort. What I can offer to a team is the promise to always work hard and never give up.
When it comes to choosing what school I would like to go to, I am mainly looking at the southern East Coast (Virginia, the Carolinas, Georgia, Florida) but I am very open to going anywhere where the fit is particularly good. The size of the school doesn't matter to me as much as a great 'college town' environment and vicinity to a larger town or city. I would like to pursue a university with an outstanding academic reputation in the Humanities as academics are very important. Right now I am leaning towards a degree in English Lit or Pre-Law as my favorite subjects have always been English and History. I know my major may change over the course of my high school career so a school with a variety of degrees in the Humanities is important.
Ideally, my athletic environment would be one where I could make an immediate impact on the team but would still be enough of a stretch that I can grow as a player and leave the university a much better player than when I entered. My absolute goal would be to play at the NCAA DI level although I would certainly consider high academic DII institutions.
