My name is Abriana Hurtado and I am from the small town of Jerome, ID. There isn't much to do in an agricultural community, so instead of participating in negavtive activities, I choose to get lost in the sports of softball and basketball. My love for the game of softball is unending. Actually, one of my many aspirations I have had, since I was young, was to take my academics and athletics to the collegiate level. Growing up I knew that the books always came before the bats, so I have never had much of a hard time with balancing them. By far my favorite aspect of softball is being able to take the anxiety out of any game situation and turn it into positive energy. I choose to stay calm in any situation on or off the field because I have been taught that mental strength comes before physical strength in anything. I am constantly striving to push myself to be the best I can be, without comparing myself to others. With my free time, I choose to do acts of service that benefit my community. Last year I was raised nearly $11,000 for the Stanton Health Care Center of the Magic Valley (Well know as Pregnancy Crisis Center). This year I raised approximately $14,300 for Crisis Center of the Magic Valley, where women and children can go to escape domestic violence in a household. I am also currently holding the Junior Board position and the Crisis Center of Magic Valley. Overall I wouldn't be able to be who I am at this point in life if it weren't for my coaches, family members, and teammates encouraging me. I hope that this description of myself has taught whomever is reading this information, something about me and I look forward to communicating with anyone who comes into my path.
