Personal Statement

In the state championship game starting in a position I had never played before, while fighting the sun, I made a play that proved to me that I am capable of chasing my dreams. Being the only girl on the Three Rivers Little League All-star Baseball Team taught me to follow my dreams while doing something that I love. I have played organized baseball for nine years and have made the switch to competitive softball recently. Although the switch has been challenging, I found a place where I can be more truly myself.  For instance, at every home football game, my friend and I escaped to the softball field. It helped me escape the constant day to day pressure of life. Throughout my life in academics and athletics, my friends and family have always been beside me cheering me on. Without their support, I wouldn't be inspired to push myself as hard as I do to earn straight A's and participate in extracurricular activities such as Band and Leadership. I have learned that being challenged pushes me to do better work. I constantly strive to be the best because my goal is to be in the top three students in my class, as well as an all-state softball player over the next three years.

As a girl playing baseball, it appeared to me that nobody expected me to perform at the same level as the top players. I wanted to prove them wrong, so I worked as hard as I could. My hard work paid off when I became a four time All-Star, helping the team make it to the state championship. Growing up, another challenge I faced was while I was snowboarding. During the USASA national championship I broke my arm during a boardercross competition. The next day I returned to the slopes with my arm in a cast to finish the competition. The most recent obstacle I overcame happened during my freshman softball season. During one game I started at shortstop, a position I had not played before. That day I made three errors and felt like I let my coaches, teammates, and myself down. The next time I was tasked to play that position, I succeeded. Instead of errors, I made an all-star level play. By the end of the season, I learned from my mistakes and instead of letting them haunt me, I let them inspire me. With the pressure of league title on the line, I scored the winning run and made a diving catch to preserve the win. Through perseverance I was able to overcome obstacles and self - doubt.

Softball has taught me to be a good teammate. As the only freshman on my team, I could've been an outsider, but instead each player took me under their wing. From that I learned to be inclusive, which has helped me grow as a teammate and person. Another skill I've learned is hard work. In order to meet your goals and become the best player you can, I believe that hard work is the starting point. I believe I am a good fit to play college softball because I can overcome any obstacle I face and I want to grow as a player and person. I thank you for taking the time to read this and I hope I can take the next step in reaching my goals
