My name is Adia Shaw, I am a 14 year old freshman from Stockton, California attending Aspire Langston Hughes Academy. I play travel ball for the So Cal Athletics - NC, where I am a pitcher and utility player, mostly at catcher, outfield, and corners.
My goal is to major in Animation, and minor or double major in Kinesiology, Sociology, or Child Development. My high school offers college courses, and by the time I enroll in college, I hope to have some of my general education requirements already complete.
My dream is to work for Dreamworks, Pixar, Lucasfilm, Disney, or Crunchyroll as part of their animation team. My other career goals are to teach elementary school, be a LGBT and minority community advocate, and coach softball.
I have played fastpitch softball at a competitive level since the age of 7 and I have grown to love the sport and all the opportunities it has provided me so far. I enjoy being a teammate and friend to those I play with, I always strive to be a good student in school, learn what I can from my coaches, and I am always seeking opportunities to improve myself.
Because I have performed at a high level for this long, my experience has given me the confidence to remain cool under pressure. During games, I stay relaxed but I am always focused. My teammates and classmates can always rely on me for knowledge and insight. In the classroom, I am often asked to take the lead in small group activities. I feel that softball has helped me develop good leadership skills and I strive to be a model student and teammate.
I hope you will consider me as the next scholar athlete for your school.
