My name is Shea Lane and I am senior year at Del Norte High School in San Diego, CA. This is my fourth year as a starting Varsity player. I'm very proud to have made the team as a freshman and I've worked hard to be a starter and maintain that throughout each season. I bat second in the lineup and play shortstop. I've also played Center & Left fields as a freshman.
I am 5'5" tall, weigh 140 pounds and I run from home to first base and 3.0 flat. I am African-American, adopted, have 2 moms and an older brother, who is very annoying (the brother, not my moms).
I am an artist and an athlete. I understand the commitment it takes to be a college student-athlete. Playing softball is my passion, being an artist is my persona. I plan to continue both in college and throughout my life
My first choice is to be on an urban campus with a lot of diversity in the student population. Financial assistance is going to be very important to me in the college selection process as one of my moms is recovering from a serious chronic illness and my family will have high need.
All my coaches have told me I'm a very "coachable" player. Both, my high school and travel coaches, have said that I'm a good contact hitter. On my high school team, where I bat second, our chant for me was to "switch places Shea!" Our lead off hitter usually got a double and then I would follow up with one too, to bring her home. It worked very well for me and the team.
My softball goals are first to play to the best of my ability so that I can make an impact on my team. Our high school slogan is "We Before Me." That's ingrained in me. Education is also a priority and I want to see where my art can take me. My softball goals post high school are to play for a competitive college softball program for four years in preparation and training to make the Olympic softball team in 2020.
Some of my softball history: I've been: playing softball since I was eight years old; made All-Stars every year since then; made the TCS All-Star team in Colorado for 2 years and was chosen as TCS All-American. My achievements in this series made me realize that I want to go further in softball, to really push my limits.
I've been pushing ever since and this past high school season I met not one, but two, of my personal softball goals: Best Defensive Player of the Year and The Nighthawk Award which is for an athlete who demonstrates good sportsmanship, a love of the game and is flexible and has the interest of the whole team in mind at all times. These achievements are among my proudest moments.
I hope that you'll have an opportunity to see me play in person. Here's a link to my travel team website for my schedule:
