My name is Carson Coey and I am a sophomore at a Division III school in Ohio. My love for sports began in 7th grade when I joined cross country in order to hang out with my friends. I quickly realized that not only was I really good at running, but I love to compete in cross country which I now consider to be my favorite sport. I originally did not expect to do as well as I have, but surprised myself by placing 11th in the first meet I ever ran in. For four consecutive years now I have averaged the fastest time on my team and was the top varsity runner in 2016 earning the title of MVR (Most Valuable Runner) as a freshman (fastest 5k - 16:45). In 2017 I shared the title of MVR with 2 other teammates and had the fastest 5k at 16:38. My team has come in 1st at Districts and 2nd at Regionals for 2 consecutive years, qualifying for state both times where we came in 14th in 2016 and 11th in 2017. As an individual, in 2017, I came in 35th in the Div III race. I have learned that I am a lot stronger than I ever imagined I could be. Throughout my life religion, parents, family, and friends have shaped me into the runner I am today and they continue to encourage me to push beyond what I imagine I can do. I am very competitive in every aspect of my life from academics to athletics and I have learned not to put limits on what I think I can do. I believe I am going to be valuable to any program and this makes me a great prospect for any coach.
