One of my goals is to do well in both athletics and academics. I can say that I am a very hard worker and I'm very focused. Anything that I set my mind to I will go and get. For example, a couple of years ago I entered a 5k race in which I finished in 23:30. A couple months later another race came up and a friend about 4 years older was doing it. So I decided to do it with him and my goal was to keep up with him. He finished in 20:35. I ended up finishing in 20:45, 10 seconds behind him. I was very surprised because I improved almost 2 minutes in only 2 months. After that race I felt the need to set another goal. I wanted to get my time under 20 minutes. So I trained really hard for 6-7 months and then entered another 5K race. I finished in 20:01. I was devastated because I got so close but didn't reach my goal. A few months later I entered yet another race. The course was extremely hilly and I knew I wasn't going to get a PR. I finished in 20:10 and I was pleased, but I still hadn't achieved my goal. So for the next few months I trained really hard and entered another race. I finished in 19:45. I was very happy. I now seem to have a reputation in my community for being an excellent runner, with a number of victories and newspaper lisitngs to my credit. Now after the reaces I enter, a number of high school cross country runners usually congratulate me on my time, most of whom I beat. That definitely adds to my confidence.
Physical fitness is something that really means a lot to me. I am always trying to stay in shape and eat healthy. This is something that fits really well into the sport of running. Running is something at least for me that is very hard to go without. It's hard for me to go a whole day without getting some kind or workout in. I believe I will be a good candidate for your team because I am a good leader and will always do my best. Also, I am always working to improve and get better.
In school, I am working hard to earn outstanding grades every semester so that I can apply for the North Carolina School for Science and Mathematics which is a residential school for academically gifted juniors and seniors. They are also state champions in Cross Country and track and field. I know that if I can graduate from there, many doors to college will open for me.
