Personal Statement

My ideal future includes crossing the finish line at a cross country running race for a division one school. I am excited for the academic challenge of college and for the opportunity to work with other highly motivated students. With a willingness to work towards my athletic goals, I can bring both a winning attitude and enthusiasm to any running program. I am looking for a great coaching staff that can help me develop my potential, with a positive, congenial approach. When I find the right school, I am looking forward to grueling days of training in the heat, rain, and even snow.

I feel so lucky that I grew up in Alaska with a family that loved to play in the great outdoors - skiing, hiking, camping, biking, you name it. My earliest running memories are of the family Tuesday night races, me as a toddler running through the woods holding my parents’ hands. On family hikes, I would ask if I could run up the ridge, just for the joy of it. Sports have been the highlight of both my high school and younger years. Whether running for a state championship team, or trying out new sports such as hockey and soccer, sports give me a break from the stress of school.

The difficulty of running has taught me to push through the challenges that life brings. I set high goals for myself, working for excellence in the classroom as well as in sports. Sports and academics have made me a more competitive, positive person, always striving to better myself. I have always enjoyed creating a friendly spirit among my competitors at races while at the same time acknowledging the gravity of any sporting event.

NCSA COLLEGE RECRUITING®

NCSA College Recruiting® (NCSA) is the nation’s leading collegiate recruiting source for more than 500,000 student-athletes and 42,000 college coaches. By taking advantage of this extensive network, more than 92 percent of NCSA verified athletes play at the college level. The network is available to high school student-athletes around the country through valued relationships with the NFLPA, FBU, NFCA and SPIRE. Each year, NCSA educates over 4 million athletes and their parents about the recruiting process through resources on its website, presentations of the critically-acclaimed seminar College Recruiting Simplified, and with Athletes Wanted, the book written by NCSA founder Chris Krause.
