I Love Soccer
Soccer is more than a hobby for me like music and school. For me soccer is a passion, a way of life and the greatest part of my day. I started playing soccer with my brother when I was 3. I know now that he and his team were trying to make me feel like I was the greatest but it still helped me realize my passion for soccer.
Ever since then I have played on a team that was older then me. First, on my brothers team when he was 8 and I was 6 I still played on his team. Then, when I was 12 I played for a team full of 14 year olds for a few years. And now, freshman year and i'm playing varsity soccer. I played futsal and indoor soccer when I couldn't play soccer so it was always year round for me and I did camps to improve my skill all the time.
I love soccer, I love the confusion and rush of a split second decision and the practice that makes tough decisions habit. I love the pass and move, warmups and after game talks. I love the urgency of being tied with 5 minutes left and it's all up to you. I love the reward of being able to make the trip home with another win under our belt. I love the community and family of a team and the long lasting connections with those people because you've been through good and bad together. I love half-time and hearing the refs whistle blow to let you know that it's time to finish this. I love when the weather is gloomy and yet at the same time perfect for soccer. I love seeing the ball sail through the air and come down like a magnet to your foot. I love the joy of learning something new, something you can show off to your friends. I love the pressure of a penalty kick and the relief as soon as you hear it hit the net. I love how the crowd and the noise disappears and all you can think about is right then and there. I love the invisible string that keeps the ball the perfect distance to your foot and when the ball does exactly what you want it to. I love the competition and the crowd. I love, love, love soccer.
In conclusion soccer is a big part of my life. Sometimes I wonder what my life would be like without soccer. I think it would be like not having a part of me. I am so glad i am fortunate enough to play soccer and that my parents supported me. Because, I love soccer.
