I would never have imagined that after struggling to make it across the rink during my first few laps in hockey skates, that hockey would become my favorite sport. I started as an 8 year old playing roller hockey in a neighborhood league, and by the time I was 10 I was playing on my first travel ice hockey team. I’ve played on lower and upper level teams, this season playing as a AA player for the Piedmont Predators in both the CBHL and the EJEPL. Although I was excited to make the AA Bantam team this year, I really learned a lot last year when I did not make the top Bantam team as a 13 year old. Our team had a rough year, but instead of getting discouraged I made a decision to figure out where I needed to improve. I set specific goals for myself and worked hard until I achieved them. I not only made the AA team this year, I was voted Captain by my teammates and coaches. I am working on improving my leadership skills so that I can do my best in this role.
I know that in addition to trying to continually improve my hockey skills, I have to stay focused on my school work. It is my goal to maintain a 3.5 or better GPA throughout my high school career. I am open to all the options available after high school, and definitely want hockey to be part of that. I am thankful to my parents for their support in helping me to continue to follow this path.
