Ryan Loebig '17 Recruiting Profile

My greatest goal in hockey is to play for a Division 1 school that also provides me with a challenging educational opportunity. I am aware that this is a lofty goal but I am willing to do whatever it takes to fulfill it. I also understand that it is very possible that I am unable to reach this goal. In this case, I look to play for a competitive club hockey team at a strong academic university. It is very important to me to find the school that gives me the best opportunities in both hockey and academics. I feel that I am a very good addition to any school and hockey team because of my work ethic and constant desire to become the best version of myself possible.  Words that describe me include competitive, passionate, driven, witty, caring, and easy-going.

As a hockey player, I would like to play at the highest level that I can and am willing to go to whatever lengths necessary to achieve this goal. I started playing (ice) hockey at the age of 9 and have always had an insatiable appetite to get better. I feel most accomplished when I know I am improving my game, and I constantly work to do so. I know that, to play the game I love at a high level, I must continue to work intensely and intelligently, and I am committed to doing so. What separates me from other recruits is my desire to get better and my passion for the game. I am a team player through and through and measure my success directly from my team's success. Again, hockey is my greatest passion and I am willing to put in the work necessary, and beyond, to play at the collegiate level.

I would describe myself as a defensive-defenseman. I am quick-sticked, strong in the defensive zone, and intelligent. I pride myself on my ability to keep the puck out of my team’s net. I am always looking to block a shot, work a man off of the puck, or break up a play. In addition to this, I move the puck intelligently and can get the puck out of the zone quickly. I am always looking to make the pass that will best help my team move up ice efficiently and score.

Off of the ice rink, I pride myself upon my character in the community, my achievement in the classroom, and my time shared with family. Through my junior year I have maintained a 4.5 (weighted) GPA while working two jobs and competing on a junior hockey team. I am extremely competitive in school as well, constantly driving myself to be the best student in the class, whether it be on tests or even minor projects. In the community, I volunteer often and enjoy being a role model to the youth of my area. Counseling and leading youth groups at local churches has allowed me to be a teacher to many children, and inversely has allowed me to learn many lessons from them as well. Other interests of mine include golfing and socializing with friends. Listening to music is something I do very often and I enjoy several different genres. I love watching movies when I can find the time.  My favorites include Miracle, Good Will Hunting, and Kicking and Screaming. My favorite condiment is by far honey mustard.
