Zachary M. Hammond '21
I would like to thank you for taking the time to read my personal statement, and I am sure there are many qualified candidates that your institutions will be considering over the next 3.5 years. I am a student athlete that is committed to self-development, maximizing on opportunities and demonstrating my passion to compete at the collegiate level athletically and academically.
I have had the pleasure of playing hockey and studying in suburban Massachusetts, a beach community in Rhode Island and urban New Jersey just outside of New York City. I have been on ice since I was two years old and in the last thirteen years, I have continuously developed a passion for hockey and have had the good fortune to play at elite levels since 2008.
My passion for hockey has allowed me to contribute to numerous teams who have won consecutive championships and competed against teams from Canada and Russia. I have been honored to play and compete with players from around the globe and blessed with the opportunity to learn from international and NHL coaches.
I enjoy playing hockey and being involved in the community I am also dedicated to being a lifelong learner. My parents have demonstrated that I need to turn my passions into personal goals not only so I can experience success but more importantly better myself to give more to my community as a leader and contributor.
Don Bosco Preparatory High School tradition says “education is a matter of the heart", I honor this tradition by bringing my best to the Don Bosco community as Class Secretary, member of the Varsity Ice Hockey Team and carrying a 3.7 GPA.
My high school goals are to contribute to and earn an opportunity to lead Don Bosco’s hockey team, work in Don Bosco’s ministry services, and excel academically. By doing this I will accomplish the one of my greatest goals, to be a model of excellence through quiet calm confident performance.
