Alexander Yphantides '20 Recruiting Profile

My name is Alex Yphantides, I am a 6’4 shooting guard from San Diego, CA. I am a sophomore at Santa Fe Christian high school. I had a 3.5 GPA freshmen year, but I expect it to improve because of the AP class I am taking this year. I scored an 1100 on my PSAT and will be taking the SAT my junior year. In addition to playing for my school, I have played for club and AAU teams for the past 4 years. My current 15U AAU team, Coastal Elite, is ranked in the top 25 in the nation. On the court, I am very vocal and love to lead, and off the court I have a friendly disposition. I work hard and love seeing the results I get from hard work. I am coachable and respect the process of fitting into any new team.

Through hard work and good coaching, my goal is the play college basketball, hopefully in a DI or DII school. Last spring, I was fortunate enough to go with my school team on a basketball missions trip to Taiwan, where we played 7 games in 10 days against top Taiwanese high school teams, as well as their U19 national team. It was a terrific look into another culture and an opportunity to use the Mandarin I have been studying for 8 years. Also this summer, I traveled to the Dominican Republic with my school and spent 2 weeks working with at-risk youth who lived there; another eye opening experience and use for the Spanish I’m studying in school. On both trips I developed relationships which are still ongoing, over social media.

Through these and other intercultural experiences, I have developed a love for history and hope to study it throughout college in addition to seeking my degree in Broadcast Journalism and Production.
