Alex Whalen '21 Recruiting Profile

My name is Alex Whalen and I am in the  9th Grade at Notre Dame Preparatory School in Pontiac MI (NDP),  graduating in 2021.  NDP was recently named the top Catholic high school in Michigan.

My focus and passions the next four years are the International Baccalaureate program at NDP,  and leadership and excellence on both the NDP football and basketball programs.  My goal is to attend a highly selective university and a become a valued leader on the university football team.

My Middle School GPA was a 4.00, including Honors Geometry, and 3rd year Mandarin Chinese.  My High School Placement Test indicated I am in the Top 4% National Percentile.  I was recently awarded the Fr. Jean-Claude Colin Founders Award, and am committed to continue to excel academically.

I was selected as both the starting Middle Linebacker and starting Offensive Guard on the NDP Junior Varsity Football team.  I also played on the specialty teams, as Long Snapper and other roles.  As a 9th grader, I played over 95% of ALL plays in each of the Junior Varsity games. 

During my 8th Grade year, I was the Defense Captain (voted by my teammates) and starting Center Linebacker.  Our team went undefeated and won the "Prep Bowl" at Ford Field in Detroit.   I was also selected to the NDP 9th Grade Basketball Team.  

 I am most honored that I received the 2017 Scholar Athlete Award for the Detroit Catholic Youth Organization (CYO).  

I was also recently elected to the NDP Student Council.

I have also learned through adversity.  In my first football game in 7th grade, I tore my acl and required surgery.  I was devastated, but remained dedicated to both the football and basketball teams, assisting my teammates in all ways.  I am fully recovered, and much stronger for the experience, both mentally and physically. 

I am most proud to play for the NDP Fighting Irish!  

I have attended numerous football camps, including the University of Notre Dame, Detroit Lions and Football University,  (FBU) were I was selected for the FBU Top Gun Showcase in South Carolina in 2017.  Through these camps, I have further strengthen both Technique and Talent!

I plan to attend 4 or more FBU camps and University of Notre Dame football camps in 2018

I am pursuing an amazing university program that will be an excellent fit for me both academically and athletically.  I have and will continue to learn the value of teamwork, commitment, sacrifice and leadership, and look forward to actively and fully participating in this process.  I know that I have what it takes to be a leader on your team, and look forward to the next few years!
