Personal Statement

My name is Marius Small and I am a sophomore at Joliet West High School in Joliet, Illinois. I play football and run track. Although sports is very special to me, it is not the most important thing in my life. My belief in God, my family and my education is much more important.

I believe that my athletic ability is a God given gift and I work hard and do my best to honor God. I am so grateful to my mom, brothers, and grandparents for supporting me in all my endeavors. I work hard in school because I understand that education is the key for success in life. I work just as hard in the classroom as I do in sports. I am very conscious that sports can end in the blink of an eye with a serious injury, so my goal is to be a mechanical or civil engineer.

I have learned so much about life from sports. If you work hard then good things will happen. My mom and grandparents keep me grounded by stressing humility and doing my best at whatever I do.

I would be a valuable asset to a college football program because of my work ethic on the field and in the classroom.
