I started becoming interested in Football back in 6th grade. Throughout middle school, I always played quarterback when I played with my friends because I had a decent arm from playing baseball since I was 5 years old. However, watching players like Mike Evans and Odell Beckham Jr make spectacular catches and big plays on TV motivated me to take interest in playing wide receiver.
In the summer before 9th grade, I decided to join my high school football team as a wide receiver. Coming in, I was the fourth string Y receiver mainly because I never had actual experience in playing organized football. By the end of summer, as I began to condition and practice more often, I climbed my way up to second string on the depth chart. During our first scrimmage of my freshman year, I was promoted to become the starter because the original starter went down with an injury.
The highlight of my year came in week 11 when my team beat Los Gatos, our long time rivals. In that game, I learned what it meant to play as a team, and as a family. It came down to the last play with 2 seconds on the clock on our own 2 yard line, and we stuffed them. After that, our team charged the field; it was the first time we beat Los Gatos in over a decade. That was the turning moment in my career. From that moment, I realized how much I actually loved the game. For the contact. For the competition. For the brotherhood my team built up.
The offseason was a long grind. Everyday after school, the first thing was to the weight room or to the track. Every weekend, I ran routes and played catch with my quarterback to build up our chemistry. When my sophomore season finally came, I found out the hard work definitely payed off. Not only did I begin to play at a higher level than before, but I also realized that the incoming freshmen looked up to me and I realized that I needed to become the leader and captain I was.
I am currently looking for a college program that will be a good fit for me athletically as well as academically. With everything this sport has taught me, I believe I have become a better person and that my work-ethic and leadership can make an instant impact on your program!
