My name is Marcus Bugeja and I'm a left handed pitcher, first baseman, and corner outfielder. I have been playing baseball all of my life, and want to continue playing until I reach my personal goals I have set for myself and strive for. I am the starting first baseman on my travel team, the Pirates Baseball Club. I bat 2nd in the lineup, and have shown consistent contact, power, and speed. I have dreamed of playing college baseball ever since I was a 5 year old starting my baseball career. I played a few years in my city baseball program and was a part of the all star team. I made the leap into travel baseball when I was just 8 years old and have been full steam ahead ever since. I have trained hard every day to make myself a better ball player for both my team and for myself. Each performance goal I have set for myself has helped me to not only benefit my team, but also myself in the advancements and opportunities I have been given thus far in my baseball career. I got to see a benefit of this hard work by being selected to represent the 14u Great Lakes region National team in the USSSA All American baseball tournament in Orlando, Florida August of 2017. It was a great honor to be selected from the many regional tryouts to represent my region and play against the best talent in all of America. I plan to continue to set the bar high for myself to help get me closer to my goal of playing college baseball. I have been consistently going to a crossfit gym three times a week to participate in group classes which includes weight lifting, cardio conditioning, and agility work. I also work with a personal baseball instructor once a week to help craft my pitching arsenal and hitting skills. The work doesn't stop there either; I am constantly doing work at home also by hitting off a tee, playing catch, and going to the local high school ball field to practice fielding. I want to make sure that I am contributing to my baseball team by giving them the best performance that I'm capable of.
In the classroom, I try to be the best student I can and have maintained a GPA of 3.5 or above throughout my school years. I set academic goals for myself and work hard to understand and strive in the assignments given each day. I hope to find a job someday where I can help people in my community and also still participate in baseball in some capacity. I hope that I can find a college that I can play baseball for and also help support my future career choice.
I feel that I would be an asset to your team because of my strong work ethic, positive attitude, and team first mentality. I feel that baseball is the best game in the world and I'm thankful everyday that I get to be a part of it. I keep a positive attitude no matter what happens in the game or the eventual outcome. The sportsmanship of the game not only brings us success as a team, but also prepares us for our future and challenges we may face. I would be nothing without the coaches, teams, and my parents who have helped me to excel to where I am today.
Thank you for reading my personal statement. I appreciate your time.
