At the age of six, I first set foot on a wrestling mat at the Downers Grove Cougars club. Shortly after that I got my first taste of success. I had heard so many stories from my family members about wrestling and I had to try it for myself. During my two years of wrestling at the club, I had mixed results but I developed a passion for the sport. I had to quit the club after only a few years, but my passion still burned on. I wrestled all three years at my middle school. By the end of 8th grade I was the first in school history to qualify for state and held many of the school records. Going into high school I continued my motivation and drive by wrestling at the varsity level as a freshman. Now that I’m in my final years in high school, I couldn’t think of a better way to further my wrestling career than to wrestle at the collegiate level. To me, wrestling is the purest sports that there is. Success has to come from your self-motivation. There is no better feeling than having your hand raised after an overtime victory. The sport has taught me responsibility, discipline, and being a team leader. It has made me who I am today. I have also been given the opportunity to volunteer at a wrestling school during the summer, and it is so rewarding to pass on what I have learned. In college I plan to study genetics and biology. Science has always been my strong suite and I hope to be able to do research on many common illnesses and improve treatment for them.
