Emily Martin '20 Recruiting Profile

My name is Emily Martin, I am sixteen years old, and my goal is to study in the field of Medicine: specifically Radiology and Physical Therapy. I have played volleyball since the third grade, and my position is primarily Middle Hitter and Blocker. I have played travel volleyball since 2014, or when I was in 7th grade. Additionally, I have attended a range of elite camps, including West Virginia University Position Camp and Concord University Women’s Volleyball Camp, to improve my overall hitting and blocking power and consistency.

I feel that I could be a key aspect to your team because I am a positive leader; whether it may be in school, on the court, or in the weight room. My role as a Middle Hitter helps me to speak my team through the play as it occurs. In the past club seasons, my team has voted me as captain. Volleyball to me is a privilege, and my attitude towards every play is purely heart and love of the game. My height is a great advantage personally; however, it could be a leading aspect for any team. My experience gained through travel volleyball has grown me into a strong player in the aspect of offense and defense.

When I am not on the court, I am typically working with my horses or involved in my church activities. I have been responsible for training and care for horses since I was a child, and I feel that made me a dominant leader, strong, and granted me patience. Academically as a sophomore, I am currently enrolled in an AP Biology course, 12th grade Chemistry, and basic honors classes. I have maintained straight “A’s” for my entire high school career and a 4.25 GPA, along with tackling the task of athletics and extracurricular activities. I am a member of Key Club (a community service program) and a tutor for underclassmen in the school.

Although I have always loved playing as a Middle Hitter and Primary Blocker, I enjoy swinging on the right side as well. My height is working against me, but I also enjoy and appreciate reps on the back row. I am a versatile player, and in case of emergency, can even play my hand in setting.
