Volleyball has been a positive influence in my life since I started playing at age 10. I started out on a recreation team and have never stopped playing, excelling, and loving this sport. I have a strong support system through my family, friends, and community. My support allows me the opportunity to play at a club level and to attend many tournaments. I have learned to use my determination on the court to excel in volleyball. Even though I am not the tallest I have learned that if I apply myself I can still jump as high if not higher than the tallest. This determination is also carried out in my academics, where I also give my all in every assignment. My grades are a reflection of my hard work and determination. I was recently awarded the “Outstanding Student Award” in my Family and Consumer Sciences class at this year’s Middle School Graduation.
I have played many positions in volleyball and have learned a great deal from them all. My recent positions have been, setter, libero, and defensive specialist. I am told by coaches that I am a well-rounded player and shine in all positions. My time in volleyball has shown me how important it is to be part of a team. I have learned how to win and lose graciously. When I think of career, I am interested in Medical School for the future and have talked to career specialists like Occupational Therapists, and Physicians. Science and the working of the brain and body are some things that I find exciting.
I still have many years left before college and I am sure I will learn more about what I want to do and who I am as these next four years of high school progress. As for now, I know I want to play volleyball, do well in school, and have fun with my friends and family.
