My name is Disa Haugsdahl and I am from Warrenton, VA. I am a senior at Kettle Run High School and will be graduating in 2016. I am 6 feet tall and 160 pounds and am dominantly right handed. My standing reach is 7’5” with my block jump at 9’3” and my approach jump at 9’7”. I am a tri-athlete and participate in volleyball, softball and track, where I am a thrower.
Volleyball is my newfound love. I started playing late in eighth grade and since then have played club and school volleyball. My freshman year we won the district title and my sophomore year, as a captain, we won the conference title. As a 15 year old I was the lone freshman on the sophomore laden Braddock Road Youth Club 16 National team as a middle blocker. The 2014 season I played middle for American Volleyball Club 16s and was nominated for the JVA watch list. After my season concluded I was invited to play as an opposite with the Virginia Juniors 16s at AAUs in Orlando. I was also added to the 2014 AVCA Phenom List for the class of 2016. My junior campaign had my Kettle Run Cougars team advance to the state semi-final game, I earned All-Conference 27 honors as well as 2nd team All-Region honors. My junior year for club I played up on American 18s. We won five tournaments and placed 3rd at NEQ. For my senior year we moved up to 4A where I was selected as a first team conference player even when our team was knocked out in the first round of the tournament.
As a sophomore I took Life Fitness, a weight lifting class, dominated by football and baseball players as well as wrestlers in my school. Despite being one of three girls in the class I stepped up to the challenge and pushed myself in the weight room to improve my on court performance. My serving is diverse and for the season I served 150 out of 171, with 22 aces, by the time we went to Orlando (2013), I had become one of our teams most consistent servers, serving 39 out of 42 (93%) in 25 sets.
My coaches have described me as “a joy to coach and one of the most coachable players I've been fortunate to encounter…” I am a leader on and off the court and always try to bring life and energy to my team! As an aggressive and determined player I will push myself to be the best that I can be while encouraging my teammates to do the same. I have learned from playing at a high level that a team needs to depend on each other, to hustle for every ball, and to work for every point. I love being part of a team and I love being able to say and know that I helped my team find success.
In the classroom I am a good student earning a 3.692 GPA and achieving the following honors/awards - National Honors Society, Honor Roll, National Society of High School Scholars, and Attendance Award. In 9th grade I was enrolled in Honors Geometry (a 10th grade level class) and Honors Earth Science (maintaining a 95 percent average throughout the course). In 10th grade I took Honors English, Algebra II (a class intended for 11th grade students), and World History II AP. My junior year, I took Advanced Functions and Modeling, a senior level course. For my final year of high school I am enrolling in AP Government and Athletic Training 3 and 4. The AT classes are only offered to one or two students and they must be approved by the Principal.
The extracurricular school activities I am involved in are Latin Club, DECA, Where Are Your Keys (American Sign Language), Breakfast Club (involving Special Education students), Student Mentor, Athletic Training, and Girl Scouts.
My desired major is in sports medicine, exercise science or physical therapy at a small or medium sized school, but with the right fit I would be open to larger schools.
