UPDATED 12/13/17
I have been interested in sports since I can remember. I started out at the YMCA playing every sport they offered. My mother played basketball in college and she was hoping that would be my choice. However I played one season of volleyball and fell in love.
My sophomore year of “School Volleyball” ended this season with us losing our Area Playoff game. It was a very disappointing lost because we keep falling short to making it to State. However that negative only turns into a positive because it keeps me very motivated to continue to get stronger, faster, and knowledgeable in this sport.
It was nice to see that my hard worked paid off when I was awarded the MVP for District, but also for St. Joseph. I also received 1st Team All District and 2nd Team All State. During the volleyball season I was also nominated and won Athlete of The Week. I was also on the AVCA Phenom Watch List and received an invitation to attend the Convention in Kansas City, MO.
After winning AAU National Championship this year, I am so excited that Club Season has begun. I want to thank my mom for allowing me to play again this year with this team (Texas Shock 16 Nationals) based out of Austin, TX and we live in Victoria TX. It is a drive, but this team is focus on making it to the USVA Nationals in Michigan. Another motivation to continue to work hard.
I still have the drive on not limiting myself to one position. I am determine to continue to excel as an outside hitter as well as an all around player. My position for this school season was Middle Blocker that is where I was needed the most. The love I have for this game allows me to adapt to any position that best suit the team to be the best we can be.
I use the same philosophy in regards to my academic goals and life in general. It is so stereotypical for others to limit you, but you must be determine to go outside the box and strive for the unimaginable. You determine who you are and what your worth.
As I continue my of life's journey, I just hope that I do not lose my way. It might be tough at times, but I must remain focus on and off the court.
What make me different than others is I am still the one and only Savannah Wharton. There is no one else like me. You will never have to question or wonder where I stand, because you will know when I step on the court or in a classroom I will always give 100%.
I continue to seek my Dentistry Degree, and to have an opportunity to get my education paid for while playing the game that I love is another motivation to stay FOCUS as well as HUMBLE. I'm very hard working, committed, and determined to succeed in this sport as well as being a leader to my teammates.
