Kortney Schaum '16 Recruiting Profile

My name is Kortney Schaum. I am currently going into my junior year and my 3rd year on my high school varsity team. During my sophomore year, I was the starting outside/ defensive specialist for the varsity team. I have been playing club volleyball since I was 8 years old and school volleyball since I was in the 7th grade. I have been on honor roll all through middle and high school. My main focus had been and will remain to be my academics and volleyball. When I’m not on the court practicing, I’m at the gym working out to get more in shape to be a better player. Since the first day of stepping on the court at a young age all I wanted to do was to be on that court everyday doing what I love. Volleyball is the one thing that brings joy to my face even if im having bad day. I have the motivation to pick myself up and say, “The next one is mine.” This motivation never lets me get down during a game. I may get upset when I mess up, but I’ve learned that I will make mistakes. Not only do I pick myself up but I also pick up my teammates so they don’t get down. My dedication and motivation throughout the years have made me the player I am today. My main goal is to go to the college that has the career I want to pursue, but also to be playing volleyball more competitively. I am ready for the next level of competition and for coaches to teach me new skills and techniques. I am determined to the take the next step and follow my dream of playing college volleyball. I committed to playing volleyball with a team that’s has the same passion and dedication that I have.
