Personal Statement

Hello, my name is Rachel McIntyre and I am currently a Senior at Upper Darby High School. I will graduate  in 2014. I have just finished my fourth year playing with my High School Volleyball team this past season I was a starter on the varsity team playing Setter we won more games than we have in the past two years, winning several matches  as well as we having a lot of fun.  I was really surprised when my high school coach gave me the Coach's Award and the best offensive player award. I also was named to the Best of Delaware county and the Central Leauge. This is  also my first year of playing club ball with DVA (Delaware Volleyball Academy)  on the 18 National team  as setter. I have been working on jump setting as well as refining my setting skills and increasing my speed and agility. I am was on the16 Blue Regional team as Setter/DS/RS/OH. During last club season with Liberty Bells we won the Grand Prix, took the Bronze division at MLK, Came in second at The Blast Tournament and Second at the Tiger Classic for 18 year old. I also had the opportunity  to play at the AAU Nationals at Orlando Florida.  I was picked for my high school JV team as a freshman out of a school of over 5,000 students. I was a starter, playing libero for half the season and then pulled to help out in the front row as an outside hitter as well as a defensive specialist. I have recently accomplished four different types of serves; a fast spot serve, floater, jump serve, and a hook serve.

I have also started a home conditioning program that I received from my new volleyball club twice every week. I know with constant work I'll get better and better. I am working on speed and endurance in order to improve my setting and my four step hitting approach. I will also be working on my strength in or order to improve my hitting skills, as well as working on improving my vertical jump. I have spent the summer at various camps which included Tri State elite volleyball college prospects camp, Pat powers Volleyball camp and Bob Bertucci's National elite camp were I was able to win both the doubles and triples volleyball tournaments.
In my senior year I am taking AP English , Psychology,Chemistry  and  Accelerated problems and statistics and Professional field experience at Delaware County Hospital. I have  also taken AP biology and Government and politics. As well as honors Biology, chemistry , physics, algebra 1 & 2, Geometry, Pre- Calculus, calculus  and three years of Spanish. I am also involved in pear tutoring of students who are learning English as well as a algebra tutor after school. I have been chosen to be in the National Honor Society  for my scholastic achievements and community services and the National.l Honor Society of High School Scholars for my high scholastic achievements.  I have recently won third place in the Central League Writing contest and because of it I have also received the  Upper Darby Superintendents award for my achievement in writing. Currently I have a 3.8 GPA.

I am looking for a competitive college in which I can study in the field of Sociology or Forensic Science. I also want a college that is enjoyable with a lot of different opportunities available that will prepare me for life outside of school. I am excited to play for a college and hope to accomplish this ambition. Thank you for taking the time out of your schedule to look over my profile.
