As a lifelong resident of a rural community in Gallia County, Ohio, I have had limited opportunities to excel in extracurricular activities. As a volleyball player, I seemed to have talent compared to others with whom I was competing, but I was anxious to find out if I would be competitive in a larger setting. At that point, my parents and I decided to make a huge commitment to my volleyball career by trying out at the Zenith Volleyball Academy in Columbus, Ohio, which is a two hour drive from our home. I made the team and quickly assumed the position as a leader and catalyst on the team.
Four years later, I continue to travel to Columbus at least two times a week for practice, and I work out with a personal trainer four mornings each week. Through these experiences at Zenith and with my high school team, I have become what my parents call a five tool player: I can hit, block, serve, pass, and set. As a little girl I always thought I’d be a hitter, but experience and opportunity have allowed me to become all five positions.
Since my freshman year in high school, I have received seven varsity letters in three different sports: volleyball, basketball, and track. Not only do I excel in athletics, but I am also successful in the classroom where I am ranked at the top of my class and have recently taken the ACT and scored a 27. I truly want to be a member of a championship team and am willing to do the work in the classroom and in the gym to be successful.
Being a full-time student athlete has taught me perseverance, patience, and dedication. I am a very coachable athlete who understands the meaning and value of hard-work and commitment. As an athlete, I realize that it is important to continue improving and practicing my skills to be the best volleyball player I can be. Coaches and trainers constantly compliment me on my coachability and dedication.
My biggest goal is to have the opportunity to compete in volleyball on the collegiate level while continuing my education and preparing for my adult life. Being a successful student and athlete has made me a positive and persevering individual. I'd truly love to be given the opportunity to play volleyball in college where I will continue to strive to be the best I can be in the classroom and on the court.
