My name is Shannon Longshore, daughter of Mike and Sandy Longshore. My dad is the varsity soccer and JV baseball coach, and my mom is a kindergarten teacher at Clear Fork as well. I also have 2 older sisters Katie and Meghann. Katie is a dancer and graduated from Wright State University with a major in dance. Meghann is a senior in high school, she has cerebral palsy and various other diseases. I play for Meghann because she cant do what everyone else can. I make sure I work my hardest in everything, games and practices. She is my hero because she always has a smile on her face and the best spirit, even when shes going through a tough time. My family is the most important priority for me as well, I wouldn't be the girl I am today if it wasn't for their constant support and pushing me to be my very best. If it wasn't for their support, I wouldn't be going on a missions trip to Cambodia and Thailand to be a sports coordinator for 2 weeks at an orphanage of girls that were rescued from trafficking and poverty. I love helping other people and being involved in my church, it a good feeling to know you've made someones day better. I will definitely be teaching the girls how to play volleyball!
I have played volleyball for 5 years and club volleyball 3 years and coming into my 4th year on my American volleyball team. I have been a starter on varsity for 2 years and just finished my junior year volleyball season. This year I was awarded Honorable Mention in the OCC (Ohio Cardinal Conference) and I have attended advanced players camps at colleges as well.
My main position is outside, but my coaches have put me in other places like middle and right side if someone was hurt or if I needed to help out in that position. This season (junior year) I stayed at outside and left back. Although one game I had to play middle front and middle back for a teammate that was hurt. I ended up getting Player of the Match and had the most passes for that game. In club ball my main position is outside hitter and left back also. Anywhere in the back row is my favorite because I love the competition between the hitter and I. This year I was leading in number of digs. Also, I love being a hitter because I'm smart on the court and I know where to put the ball. And lastly, I love being a teammate. Volleyball has brought me friendships that I know will last for a long time, and I love the aspect of working together and bringing my teammates up no matter what. When I play on the court I have confidence in my teammates and I have confidence in myself that I know I can do it. Volleyball isn't a sport where you can look down on yourself for awhile. You have to get right back up and get the next point for your team.
I am a coach-able player and I work hard in practice and even harder in games. I understand the work I need to put in to play college volleyball, and I will continue to work and put more time into it. I want to play college volleyball cause it has been a dream of mine for so long, and only playing for 6 years (counting middle school and high school) is not enough!
