Hi. My name is Cassy Devaney. I play for Piedmont Mizuno 17 as an outside hitter.
I’d like for you to know a little about me. I’m in the class of 2013 at Northwest Guilford High School in Greensboro, NC. My freshman year of high school, I made the JV volleyball team and became a starter. The following year, I made Varsity as a sophomore and became a starter. I was an integral player in Northwest Volleyball’s conference championship this past fall, as well as making it to the fourth round in the playoffs. Additionally, I made the national level of the Piedmont Club. This year I received an honorable award, “All Area”, which is awarded to the top player in the triad. I was also received “All Conference” for being one of the top players for my 4A conference, which was determined by coaches’ votes. Because of my dedication and perseverance, I have reached levels in volleyball I hadn’t thought possible a few years ago.
Although I am extremely involved in volleyball, there are other things that are important to me as a result of my parents and upbringing. I grew up with a very loving family. I am one of seven children, which has brought its challenges and blessings. My parents have instilled in me the importance of family. Family comes first. My family will be there through all of my accomplishments and struggles. They are my number one support system.
Among the many values my parents have instilled in me, one of the most important is honesty. My Mom has always told me that the truth would set me free. If I did something wrong, it was better to own up to my actions and be honest, than to lie to avoid the consequences. Due to this value, I try to be honest and tell the truth always, no matter how difficult it may seem or what the consequences may be.
Education is also very important to my family. Knowledge empowers you and opens doors, providing more choices for the future. Our family has always placed a high emphasis on working hard, studying, and completing homework.
Having a foundation of beliefs and faith in God has been a significant part of my upbringing, as well. I grew up in a Christian household, thanking God for the meals He placed in front of us, and the opportunities and situations he presented. I know I can always go to God. Among the most valuable lessons my parents have taught me, was to forgive and forget. Let go and let God. Without this foundation in God, I would not be the person I am today. This faith has made me a stronger person and has helped me reach my full potential.
