All my life I was a basketball player. I loved the competitiveness and the pleasure you feel when your hard work pays off. When I was in 8th grade I played for the JV basketball team and one day while practicing at the gym the volleyball coach noticed me. He told me to come down to tryouts and see how I would like it. I had never played before, however I immediately fell in love with the game. It is now by far my favorite sport. I love the sport and constantly tried improve so I tried out for Long Island Fury travel team. I made the 16 year olds team as a 14 year old and was named one of the captions. Then, the next year as a 15 year old I played for the 17's team. Now this year as a 16 year old I will be playing for the 18 year old open division. I love the competition, the travel, and the training I receive from my coaches. I am always open to new ways to improve my skill. I have been told by all my coaches that my strong suits are blocking, hitting, leadership skills, and willingness to learn.
My school team is an annual contender for league and county championships. Last year we were league champs. This actually means a lot because like my school team, most of the teams out here are travel teams. Because of our teams continuous outstanding record they moved us up a division. Even after the move this year we are still force to be reckoned with, we beat the Kings Park team who haven't lost in 72 matches, and are 4 time defending County Champs of this division. Personally, I'm having a good year. I'm leading the league in blocks, I'm 2nd in hitting percentage, and 5th in attack kills.
While I love being an athlete, I also enjoy school. I like to be challenged by the work and learning new things. I am an excellent student and have been on the honor roll since 7th grade. I'm currently preparing for the ACT and SAT this year, and feel confident about them because I have done very well on the practice. I am ranked on the high end of the upper 1/3 of my class.
As well as being a student athlete I am also involved in my community. I am a member in the Junior Fire Department, and because of my leadership ability and self-confidence I was chosen to speak as a representative in front of 400 different school organizations on bullying. I am also very involved in the Special Olympics. My community presented the local Rotary Award for outstanding community service to me because of my involvement in Westhampton Beach.
I love volleyball and because of that I want to pursue playing in college. I have the intensity, self confidence and will to win that I believe will be a great asset at the college level.
