Hi, my name is Alexa. I am 17 years old and I attend Stoney Creek High school in Rochester, MI. I grew up playing soccer, basketball, swimming, and softball. I fell in love with volleyball at a fourth grade camp and it has been my passion ever since. Volleyball has given me so many opportunities, life skills and great friends that I can't imagine my life without it. My dream is to play college volleyball and I work hard every day, in practice and out to achieve this goal. I am the first one in the gym and the last one to leave. Both my parents were college athletes and have shown me what it takes to be successful at that level. In my spare time I enjoy playing all sorts of sports, reading, tutoring and spending time with friends. I also enjoy coaching youth volleyball as it allows me to share my excitement for the sport and give back to something that has given me so much.
I love being a setter with all the mental and technical aspects of the position and being involved in most every play of the game. I try to lead with a lot of energy and a positive attitude and try to keep my team focused with my calming tempermant. I am a dynamic and aggressive player who likes to run a fast-tempo offense. I strive to make my team better by inspiring them to bring their best and give 110% at all times.
I have been fortunate enough to play on successful high level teams throughout my club volleyball career. This past club season I played on Legacy's 16-1 team. We ended the season ranked 17th in the country reaching as high as 7th during the year. We won the 16 open division of the Sports Performance Presidents Day Challenge in Chicago and I was honored as the tournament MVP for the 16 open division. In March we won the 16 open Mid East Qualifier in Indianapolis securing a bid to the USAV Junior Nationals this summer in Minnesota and in April we went 10-0 to win the 16 open division of the Big south qualifier in Atlanta as well. Last club season I played a year up on Legacy's 16-2 team as the only setter. While playing on Oakland Elite 14-1's team, we won a bid to the 2012 Junior Nationals in Columbus, OH, and we placed in the top 25. I have been the team captain for all 4 of my club seasons. This high school season I was the varsity starting setter as a sophomore. Stoney Creek competes in one of the top leagues in Michigan as Class A school. This season, I broke the school record for most assists in a match with 48 assists.
I strive to be a leader and achieve my best in everything I do, in the gym and out. Academically, I have a 4.0 GPA. I am a year ahead in Math and Spanish, and I am taking multiple AP and Honors classes my junior and senior year. I serve on the school's student council and am on the leadership board of the National Honor Society. I plan on attending a university with a strong academic reputation and majoring in nursing/medical sciences. Hopefully my skills and qualities on and off the court will make me a valuable asset to my future college team.
