Throughout my life, my mom has had a major influence on my life. She encourages me to be a better student, player and person. My volleyball journey began in 6th grade when a friend told me about how much she enjoyed playing the sport. I decided to try out for and made the school team. Although I learned to overhead set early, it was not until high school that I officially became a Setter.
Sometimes being a lefty can be challenging as well. I have to remember to think “opposite” when coaches demonstrate things for righties. As a Setter, I continue improving on my communication skills with my teammates on and off the floor. I work with the Hitters to discover how they prefer their sets to include how far off the net they like the ball and ball height (1, 2, or 3). As I grow in the sport, I continue to work on perfecting my form.
After high school, I plan to attend college and major in Architectural Engineering with a minor in Political Science. It will be a challenging curriculum, but I am up for the challenge. To prepare for the challenge, in my senior year I plan to start taking some college courses to get a head start on accruing credits. I am a firm believer in anything worth having requires hard work.
