When I step on the court I hear the screech of the whistle, the smacking of the volleyball as the attacker just hit, and the painful scraping of the elbows as the libero dives to get the ball up. The coaches about to come of their skin and the crowd cheered after a breath taking rally from both opponents. This is when it feels like the world just slows down, leaving everything else behind me and just play our game.
For four years, I have been playing volleyball competitively for both my school and just recently joined off season club. I never thought I would have such a strong passion for the game. But I realized by playing volleyball it really changed who I was, and my goals for my college plans. As a freshman, I knew walking into the Riverton Hawks gym that I wanted to make varsity. I did not want to let my family down since they had such strong expectations for me. So I worked my butt off every day during tryouts to prove to my coach that I had the talent, leadership and competitive drive to make varsity.
With the encouragement of my parents and me pushing myself to give 110%, I was a part of the varsity team as a freshman. I still wasn’t satisfied with myself. I then knew that I wanted to go on to be even better, to push myself to the college level. Because volleyball changed me to be a strong leader and not to quit and give up until I was truly satisfied with myself. If it wasn’t for volleyball I don’t think I would be the strong leader I am today!
