My name is Haley Dever, and I appreciate this opportunity to describe myself and my goals.
My athletic achievements include playing on the girls' varsity team all 4 years at Reavis High School in Burbank Illinois, being named All-Conference in 2011, and honorable mention for conference in 2010. Had the position not been so crowded, my coaches told me that the mention would also have included my first two years. I have played club volleyball for 5 years: the last two for Attack Volleyball Club in Orland park, Illinois, where I have developed under the tutelage of a former college middle as my head coach.
Academically, I maintain a 3.5. g.p.a. (which would be higher if not for the rigors of taking multiple advanced placement classes over my junior and senior years). I hope to enroll in the honors program at whatever college or university I attend. My field of choice will definitely be in the sciences; most likely in a field related to psychology, and at minimum I seek a four-year degree.
Realistically, while I may not be the most talented middle in the nation, or smartest student available, I do offer a rare and valuable combination of both: a 6'1" honor student that is very good at volleyball (especially defensively) and deeply committed to both facets of my life. Quitting or falling short was never an option, nor will it ever be, therefore a scholarship would be appreciated and not wasted. My parents are both hard-working people that raised me with proper Christian values and an instinctive competitive nature. My father, a college teacher, coached baseball for 14 years and has told me that I share the same natural coaching skills and desire to lead as he does. It is true that on the court I tend to be a natural leader and motivator for my teammates. Off the court, my commitment to work defines me; leading me to take three A.P. courses each term over the last two years.
I have always known that I would go away for college (an important goal of mine and my parents). Over the course of the last few years, my talents and experience on the court has led myself and others believe that I could and should play volleyball at the collegiate level. Now that that dream has become very close to a reality, and I merely need that one school to believe in my talents on and off the court. I seek a quality school that will help me afford those dreams of an athletic college career as well as a meaningful college experience. While I would prefer the southeastern portion of the country, I am open to all offers and would commit in full if the opportunity and financial assistance afforded to me. I believe in my heart I will be a great four year asset for any school that would welcome me.
