My biggest support group is better known as my family. With big hearts and open arms, my parents are admirable role models for me. I can always recall moments they show their selflessness, through my dad’s persistence to provide for the family and my mom’s sweet soul that runs on keeping everyone happy and healthy. My mom was born and raised in Hawai’i and my dad was born and raised in California. Their very different cultures and styles complement each other creating a balance raising my sisters and me with a home on Kaua’i while implementing experience on the mainland as well. I have two older sisters whom I follow after. The oldest graduated from college and is now married and the other is currently in college. I will be the third and final child to attend college and further my education towards a bright future.
I want to pursue a college education so I can have more opportunities in the future. In addition to that, having a degree ensures a secure career. In order to reach my career goal, a lot of schooling and knowledge is required. My parents always set an example of how important it is to do my best in my studies and remember what I am working for; becoming a Dermatologist. I want to go into Dermatology because there is currently only one on Kaua’i and I want to get an education so I can return home to give back to the community.
The successes that I have experienced have built my confidence and perspective. A huge success I experienced last school year was winning KIF for basketball and placing fifth place in the Hawai’i State Tournament. That has shown me how hard work along with teamwork really pays off no matter where you come from. Another success I have had in the beginning of this school year was making it on the homecoming court. Just being voted one of the top five to represent my school was the highlight of my senior year so far. One of my accomplishments that gives me great joy is maintaining a 4.0 GPA since ninth grade. I also take great delight in being the National Honor Society President for my school. Being in that position teaches me leadership skills and how to stay on top of my tasks. An amazing victory I recently experienced was winning the 2015 KIF title for volleyball for Kapa’a High School. Our team made history being the first team from Kapa'a High in ten years to move onto the state tournament. I never would’ve imagined before high school coming this far with so much knowledge and opportunities because of focus and dedication.
My goals for right now are to continue to get good grades and challenge myself to complete my responsibilities involving sports, school, and clubs to practice what it will be like in college with a full load of difficult work. I’m preparing for my college education now by taking relevant courses such as AP Calculus, Human Physiology, and Chemistry. After high school I plan to attend a college in California where I can study biology and play volleyball there. In ten years from now I hope to be in medical school or near medical school so I can achieve my career goal of being a dermatologist.
