Personal Statement

Aloha Coaches,

Let me introduce myself, I am Kahili Liu-Hanohano, born and raised on the island of Oahu, just footsteps away from Waikiki. I am an avid body surfer and creative spray paint artist with Mele Murals Hawai`i.  I enjoy quiet hours forming unique and abstract pieces from clay in my ceramics classes, and I have been dancing hula from the age of 5.  I am excited that my journey as a senior in high school has began, and I am looking forward to playing collegiate volleyball for you as a setter on your 2017-2018 squad.

I fell in love with the game of volleyball at the age of 6, and ever since then it has been my dream to play at the collegiate level. In Hawai`i, the UH Wahine volleyball team played against competitor teams from Utah, California, New Mexico, Oregon and Colorado to name a few.  The action of the game just stirred up this urge to reach pass the shores and waves to explore and leave my island home. Every day I dream of being accepted to a college on the mainland.  To take my dream and make it real, I started an eight-year journey dedicated to a seasonal lifestyle around volleyball.  My parents have encouraged me to learn skills taught by volleyball experts, that could teach me what it takes to be physically and mentally ready for college play. The main theme all the time, was to have a positive mindset and focus on academics. I met with mentors, coaches and friends, who taught me to value academics.  The second piece of advice, was to have an intense work ethic, that involves managing my time and putting priorities first. Finally, I have learned to cherish the unique people on my TEAM, never to take things for granted, appreciate the time coaches, parents and trainers put into making the experience rewarding.

In closing, I was told by a great coach, "it isn't if you fit into the college, it is how you fit into the college!" This advice has prepared me to be flexible, humble and patient, everything a setter must have to lead a team to victory.  I have what it takes to fit into your college program, give me a chance to prove it!

Training

  • Hawaii Volleyball Combine
  • 2 years
  • The Hawaii Volleyball Combine, in Manoa Hawai`i is held to support colligate interest through scouting opportunities for Hawaii kids. Coaches and college scouts come from over 100 different colleges to spot and check on potential prospects to fill their team rosters. It also is a great way for underclassmen to receive feedback from club coaches and play with other athletes in different skill and age -levels. Attending this combine has allowed me to connect with other local players, train with nationally recognized coaches and participate with players that I compete against during the high school and club seasons. Therefore, this combine allows me to measure up to local players and set performance goals, so I can be a stronger team player. http://www.hawaiivolleyballcombine.com
