Hello! My name is Candace Chung and I am a 5'7" junior from Honolulu, HI, attending Punahou School. I play for Jammers Volleyball Club. I have also played on the Punahou Varsity II squad.
When I was younger, I played many sports, such as basketball, tennis, and soccer. However, when I started playing volleyball, I realized that this was the sport for me. I have been playing volleyball for 5 years now and I am very passionate about it and I would LOVE to play in college. My primary position is DS, however I am capable of playing other positions such as LIB, OH/ OPP, and middle blocker. On the court, I am supportive and encouraging of my teammates and I am ALWAYS open to suggestions from coaches. I have traveled to many places and competed with my club team in Anaheim California (placed 5th ), the AAU's in Florida, and Spokane, Washington. I also traveled to the Las Vegas tournament in my freshman year with the 16s and 17s team. It is exciting to play against teams from all over the country and I am also very grateful to have the opportunity to just play volleyball. I also play sand volleyball, which helps with my game indoors and is very fun. On my off days, I go to Tactical to increase my strength and mobility. In the summer of 2014, I also went to UFC gym to keep in shape and increase my strength. During the 2013-2014 season, my team and I traveled to Reno to try qualify for Junior Olympics. I was very impressed with the competition. Even though we did not qualify, it was still a great experience. In the summer of 2014, I played up on the 17's team in the AAU's tournament.
This year, I am playing up on an 18s team with the same club. I will be traveling to the Las Vegas Classic tournament and will be playing in the 18's OPEN division. I will also be traveling to the LA qualifier in April (but we will be traveling as a 17's team) to play in the 17's USA division.
Academics are just as important to me as volleyball. At school, I have maintained a 3.963 GPA and have taken Spanish II Honors and Spanish III honors. This year, I am taking rigorous courses such as Spanish IV Honors and AP Biology. Next year, I am planning to take AP Physics, AP Spanish, and Adv. Pre-Calc Honors. My teachers would describe me as a hard-working, determined, focused, persistent, and kind. I am always on task and work well with other students.
My other extra curricular activities include playing the cello, playing the piano, and clubs (Bible Club, Key Club, Yearbook). I am also very interested in music and mixing music together. I also enjoy other activities such as spending time with friends and family.
Thank you for taking the time to look at my profile and I look forward to seeing if I am a fit to your school!
