Aloha, I’m Ana Oglivie and I look forward to playing collegiate volleyball, obtaining a degree in business. I have an entrepreneur spirit and also look to one day get involved in coaching as a way to give back. I love volleyball, meeting new people and competing at the highest level. I balance my life between my academics, family, volleyball, paddling, other curricular activities, but I can’t forget about my church family. I enjoy being a part of an amazing community at ‘Iolani Schools and have learned to push myself to get better every day. ‘Iolani has a motto: One Team. This has taught me to work hard so I may become the best that I can be while also striving to better my teammates around me. Not only does ‘Iolani have a high level of volleyball; it also provides one of the best academic curriculum in the state of Hawaii. The importance of academics and athletics is of high importance to me and I am looking for the same at the University that I attend. Attending a school away from Hawai’i, will allow me to broaden my horizons and mature into a responsible adult. I am excited for this challenge!
As a sophomore, I have been around volleyball for over six years now and have learned multiple styles of playing the game. I have been taught by numerous coaches and have adapted to their system and the way they teach the game. This has enabled my volleyball IQ to grow. Like a student in the classroom, I consider myself a student of the game. I understand that each time I step on the court, it is an opportunity to learn more and become an even better player. This attitude and mentality has fueled my passion for volleyball for many years. Let me be clear, I HATE to lose, even more than I love winning. It is that fire that drives me and it becomes contagious among my teammates.
My character stems from my mom and dad raising me in a Christian home. I am beyond appreciative of the environment I am fortunate enough to be brought up in. My siblings are some of my closest friends. Athletics has pushed my competitiveness to grow starting at a very young age. Competition has tested my fear of failure. I have failed many times, which was a disappointment at first, but quickly turned into a learning tool for the future. While maintaining a busy schedule, I continue to remain active in the classroom and have been recognized in the Headmasters List.
