Personal Statement

Meghan Lacey is a 6'0" dynamic, enthusiastic and highly talented starting outside hitter, six-rotation, go to player who earned four letters in volleyball.  Meghan enjoys working hard in the gym, on the court, in the sand and she is constantly looking for ways to improve her physical and mental game.  Meghan is not only a hard-working and driven competitor, she's also a scholar athlete, being selected to National Honor Society and she has been on the Gold Honor Roll her freshman, sophomore, junior and senior years. Meghan is a conscientious and giving young woman who spends her free time working with disadvantaged children and the homeless of Downtown Los Angeles. Last fall Meghan was acknowledged by her peers and selected Village Christian's Homecoming Queen.  This April, after an arduous process, she was selected California's Homecoming Queen out of hundreds of applicants.  Meghan will travel to Memphis this July to compete with queens from across the country for the National title.  Meghan is passionate about pursuing excellence in all areas of life.

Meghan learned at the beginning of her senior year that her coaches were going to move her from the outside to the right side. They said it will make her high school team more balanced and unpredictable. They determined that the team needed a pin hitter in the opposite position who can kill the ball, finesse the play and block. They chose Meghan because of her court awareness and intellect, agility, athleticism, speed and mental strength. Meghan was not thrilled about moving positions, especially during her senior year. Although a highly decorated outside hitter six-rotation player, Meghan knew playing opposite was in the best interest of her team so she took the challenge head on. The coaches were right, Village Christian Varsity Volleyball had a fantastic season resulting in a 34-8 record.  They went undefeated in league for a second year in a row.  Per MaxPreps.com, Meghan led all California Division 2 Opposites with 442 kills (she ranks 15th in the country for all divisions) and added 324 digs; she also contributed 41 aces and 56 blocks. Village Christian won the CIF Southern Section 2AA Championship, they won CIF State Southern California Regional Championship and are CIF State Volleyball runners up. Meghan was selected All CIF Southern Section Girls Volleyball Team for a second year in a row, and announced Star of the Match by FoxSportsPrepZone in the CIF Southern Section 2AA Championship game. She was named All-Tournament Team in the prestigious Redondo Power Classic in October.  Meghan was selected by AIST, for their 2016 Select Team, to play in the United World Games this summer, but due to a conflict in her schedule she is not able to particpate. Meghan is honored and humbled by these awards and selections. In hindsight, by playing a new position, her volleyball knowledge, court awareness and intellect have been greatly expanded. She sees the game from a very well rounded perspective. Meghan said, "this high school season was full of life lessons that will stay with me always".

In her junior year, Meghan lead her team to a 36-4 season record, a runner-up finish at the CIF-Southern Section Div. 2AA finals, and a runner-up finish at the CIF Div. 2 Southern Region Championship. For the second year in a row Meghan led her team in kills and, she contributed 347 digs, 37 aces and 28 blocks. She was instrumental in her teams perfect record and Olympic League Title. She was recognized Olympic League's Most Valuable Player and First-team All-Olympic League Honors. She was also selected to the All CIF Southern Section Girls Volleyball Team and was selected All-American NCSAA Second Team and Far West Super Region Selection. During the season she was selected All-Tournament Team for the Saugus Invitational Tournament with 57 kills, 24 digs and five aces and a All-Tournament Team Selection at the prestigious Ann Kang Invitational Volleyball Tournament in Hawaii with 88 kills, 55 digs and seven aces. For the second consecutive year she was an AVCA Phenom.

During her sophomore year, Meghan led Village Christian to a CIF Division 2A quarterfinal finish. She was recognized "High Honorable Mention" on PrepVolleyball.com 2013 Soph 79 List. She was awarded First Team All-Olympic League, was selected to the Crescenta Valley All Tournament Team, eight times was named Player of the Match by MaxPrep (including two CIF matches), was MaxPreps' 2013 Southern Section Division 2A Kills Per Set Leader (5.0 k/s) and was a NCSAA Far West Super Region Selection. She was also an AVCA's Phenom and traveled to the AVCA program in Seattle in December 2013.  Meghan was highlighted in USA Today's High School Sports, please see http://usatodayhss.com/2014/04/08/meet-meghan-lacey/

During her freshman year, she attended Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy (Division 1 AA) and was the only starting freshman on the Varsity team.  Meghan was an integral part of that teams first trip to the CIF playoffs in several years.

During her summer break in 2013 Meghan traveled with Southern California High Performance team to Florida where they competed in the USA Championships. Also that summer she was selected to the USA A2 Beach Team where she trained and competed in Hermosa Beach for the USA Championship. In 2014, after a nationwide search, Meghan was selected to AAU's Team Augusta Blue for the 10th Annual European Global Challenge. She had the privilege to tour France, Italy and Pula, Croatia playing against the top European and USA teams and was mentored by two-time Olympian Debbie Green. AAU invited Meghan back last summer but because of conflicts in her schedule, including mission trips with her church and leadership programs, Meghan made the difficult decision to not attend.

Prior to volleyball, Meghan was a competitive dancer. She started dancing at age three and competitively at age five. Throughout her journey, she received hundreds of awards for jazz and lyrical dances and was nationally ranked. She retired from dancing at the age of 14 (2012) to pursue volleyball. She was Student Body President in middle school and was awarded Female Athlete of the Year in 2011 and 2012 and MVP of Foothill Sports League for volleyball in 2012.

Meghan has a deep, steadfast, and personal relationship with God. She lives her life in order to bring glory to Him. Her favorite Bible verse is Philippians 4:13 which states, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
