I'm Olympia Nagel-Caland, one of Bill Ferguson and Jeff Alzina's players on the Roxy 17-1 team for SCVC and I'm on the Crossroads Highschool Varsity team, coached by Aaron Wexler. Crossroads is located in Santa Monica, California. This is my seventh year playing club volleyball. I played two years at Sunshine, two at Mizuno Long Beach, and this is my third year at SCVC. In addition, I started on my high school varsity team as a freshman, last year.
To keep in shape during the spring and because my father was an Olympic swimmer, I swim on my school Varsity team. Last season I made it to CIFs for my 50 yard and 100 yard freestyle, although I only swam two days a week for three months. Swimming helps me become stronger for my volleyball season.
My father is French-Lebanese and my mother is German. My mother has always spoken German to me and I am fluent in the language. I also understand almost everything in French. This has taught me better communication skills, due to the fact that I have so many ways to express myself, it really makes me think about how to communicate with others.
